Dept. of Education > Office for Educational Review > Calibration and The Essential Learnings > OER and the Curriculum Consultation OER and the Curriculum ConsultationTasmania’s Curriculum Consultation has involved a wide range of educators from all sectors, including Children’s Services personnel and teachers working at primary, secondary and college level. Essential Learnings Framework 1was the first tangible result of that collaboration. This Framework, which describes a curriculum for learners from birth to age sixteen, has been distributed to all government schools and childcare locations. Essential Learnings Framework 2, the second collection of materials, has been produced to support educators in implementing the new curriculum and in reflecting on and enhancing practice. It explains the model being used and describes the support available to assist educators in effectively using the outcomes and standards. It also includes a bibliography so that aspects of particular interest can be followed up in greater depth by reference to original source material. The outcomes and standards have been developed through a process of co-construction. The standards are a translation of the key element outcome and the performance guidelines at five points along a learning continuum. Each standard describes what students should know, understand and be able to do. The description of each standard assumes that the prior standards have been achieved and maintained. The standards form the basis of whole school planning, assessment, monitoring and reporting. In conjunction with the Office for Curriculum, Leadership and Learning, the Office for Educational Review is engaged in the calibration of the standards. This will ensure that they accurately describe an appropriately sequenced continuum of student achievement across five levels.
