Flying Start resource

The Flying Start resource was initiated in 1997, and evolved from the Prep Literacy Program (1994) and the Early Literacy Program (1996). During 2000 a major review of Flying Start was undertaken and, during 2001 the review (‘refocus’) recommendations were the primary framework for restructuring the resource and associated professional learning processes.

The Flying Start resource is now essentially a staffing allocation made to schools to support literacy teaching and learning in Years K to 2.

In 2006, in response to the Atelier Report, the Flying Start allocation to schools has been expressed as both an individual school and a cluster resource.
