| These teaching notes
offer some suggestions about possible ways of introducing and using this
learning object in a language program. They are written for a
learning sequence around buying and selling at an Indonesian market.
The best
learning takes place when there is an authentic reason or context for
that learning, but for most Australian students it isn't possible to
visit an Indonesian market. However, two classes learning
Indonesian - especially if they can be from different schools - could work
collaboratively together, culminating in a role-play market where students get
together to 'buy and sell'.
The Teaching Notes
are organised into four sections:
|
- Awareness raising -
Introductory or pre-teaching activities
- Making connections - Building
connections between new and prior knowledge, and between
Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Inggris
- Production - Using the
learning object
- Reflection and feedback
While the learning sequence may
appear linear, in fact 'production' and 'reflection and feedback' are cyclical. For each learning activity,
there will be several periods of reflection and feedback, which
informs the language program for both student and teacher. Teachers
should adapt the ideas in these teacher resources to suit their
students and their language program.
Extension activities offer
suggestions for follow up activities.
