Production
If students have not yet been introduced to this
learning object, explain that Kesan! is an internet magazine for
guys and girls (cowok-cewek) with four tasks. You can either allocate
students particular tasks or allow them to choose for themselves.
Explain to students that each of the characters in the
Kesan office wants some help with a different task. The characters will
explain the task and ask whether the student wants to choose that task,
yes or no. Explain to the students that there are several ways of saying
no in Indonesian. The options given are 'ya' (yes) or 'belum' (not yet).
It would usually be a choice of 'ya' or 'tidak' (no), but we have chosen
to use 'belum' (not yet) as a more polite way of refusing to help with a
task and to indicate that the person may come back later and help with
the task when they have the opportunity.
Ask students to find out as much as they can about
Indonesia from the learning object. Explain that there is information
(in English) behind information buttons, as well as information to be
gained from the images and tasks themselves.
Explain that they are not expected to understand every
word of Bahasa Indonesia, but rather that they can use the support
within the learning object, and their literacy skills, to complete the
tasks that they need to do. They can use offline dictionaries if they
wish.
Allow students to work in pairs, and explain that they
need to print out their work when they finish each task, and summarise
the content of that task. (See Reflection section).
You may ask students to self-assess using the assessment criteria for Kesan! (in Word or
PDF).
