Designing learning experiences containing learning objects
|
You can create your own learning experiences containing
learning objects, using a web authoring page such as
FrontPage or even using a Word document. There are some
simple factors to consider for good instructional design:

Design notes:

The heading and
text should be in a clear font suitable for the web such as
Arial, Verdana, Helvetica or sans serif and the heading
should grab student attention.

The
learning experience for the students is clearly described with
minimal text. An image adds meaning to the text.

The learning
object adds meaning to the sequence and is accessed from a
hyperlink, encouraging the students to read the learning
experience text first.

Students
undertake the task for a particular purpose. They work with others
to complete the task. They then compare their work with that of
other class members and justify the choices they made.

The text is set
in a table that is 80% of screen width, and the font is clear and
spaced out. The use of colour supports the learner, with not too
much white, and high contrast between text colour and background
colour.

The image and PDF files
open in a new window so that users can see the information and
the activity at the same time.
