Making connections
Explain to students that they are going to use a
learning object that explores some predicaments that three Indonesian students
faced, but that first they are going to prepare some resources to help
them with the Indonesian.
Have students brainstorm what the language of problems
or dilemmas might be in English and Indonesian.
Working in pairs, have students fill in the Masalah
saya sheet (in Word or
PDF) by first
brainstorming in English and then using online and offline dictionaries
to fill in as much Indonesian as possible.
Assessment: Allow each pair of students to share their work with
another pair when finished. They can self-assess and peer-assess their
work. (Assessment as learning - see Assessment section.) They may add any extra language that the
other pair listed if they wish to.
Call students back together and discuss their
suggestions. Model pronunciation and make corrections to Indonesian as
necessary. Allow students to further update their sheet.
