Linking to objects

Linking to websites using Word or FrontPage

1. Open and save a FrontPage document. You will automatically be in the ‘normal’ view (see the tabs at the bottom of this screen). You do all your work in this view.

2. Click on 'Table' in the menu at the top of the screen, and insert a table.  80% width and centred is best for reading on a screen.

3. Write your heading and activity using a screen-friendly font eg Arial, Verdana, Comic Sans… Use ‘tab’ on your keyboard to get new rows in your table.
4. Write the link as a sentence. Eg “Try searching Google using Indonesian terms.” Hold down the mouse and select the key words. Eg

5. Right click on the selected text. A box will come up. Left click on the ‘hyperlink’ option. A box will come up. Write the URL in the address window. Then click ‘Target Frame’ and select ‘New Window’. Click OK, then OK again.

6. Check that your link is working by clicking to ‘Preview’ in the tabs at the bottom of the screen and clicking on the link. If you need to make further changes, go back to 'normal' view.

Try searching Google using Indonesian terms.

Linking to learning objects using Word or FrontPage

Linking to learning objects is exactly the same process as above, except that to find the learning object you need to link to the index or default web page of the the learning object. This is the opening page or screen.

If the learning object is online, you can simply type in the URL for it as before. If it is on your computer, you can browse for it using the 'look in' down arrow:

All other steps remain the same as for linking to websites.
