Kolum nasehat - Advice column:
Kesan! Majalah internet untuk cowok-cewek is
another learning object in this series that also deals
in part with young people's problems and giving advice. The 'Dear Lina'
section of that learning object presents students with three letters
from readers who have a problem and are seeking advice. The student must
match the correct advice written by Lina to the problem, and write a
suitable headline to go with it.
Give students access to Kesan! if possible, but
if not, give them the scripts for the three problems and advice in
Kesan! to support them (in Word or
PDF). Have students work in pairs to
invent minor problems or predicaments, write these in Indonesian to
'Dear Lina' and publish anonymously. Discuss with students the
cultural appropriateness of problems and wording - young people in
Indonesia are not as open or explicit about personal problems as young
people in Australia may be. It is also inappropriate to be too
confrontational or too negative in the language used.
Allow pairs of students to offer advice as 'Lina'.
Consider how to make the advice culturally appropriate as well.
(Although this may make it a less humorous activity, most of Dear Lina's
advice is quite serious and sensible).
NB: 'Advice' can be spelt nasehat or nasihat.
