| This learning object is quite
demanding in the language used, and is suitable for extending more
capable Indonesian students. Students can work collaboratively in
pairs or small groups, or independently explore the learning object.
The intercultural language learning focus requires
that students reflect on their own language and culture as they
learn about those of Indonesia. It is important that they have the
opportunity to reflect on their learning and their ideas. The teaching notes for this
learning object provide the support for this approach, and suggest
that students keep a learning journal to reflect on their work in
Carilah oleh-oleh. The format of the learning journal is negotiable, for
example it could be on paper, a Word document, or a scrapbook.
The Teaching Notes
are organised into four sections:
|
- Awareness raising -
Introductory or Pre-teaching activities
- Making connections - Building
connections between new and prior knowledge, and between
Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Inggris
- Production - Using the
learning object
- Reflection and feedback
Production and reflection are not
sequential, but instead are cyclical. For each learning activity,
there will be one or more periods of reflection and feedback. This
informs the language program for both student and teacher.
Extension activities offer
suggestions for follow up activities.
