Statement and Profile
What
are the statement and profile?
How are they used in Tasmania?
But I haven't got a statement and profile!
What
are the statement and profile?
A
statement on English for Australian Schools and English - a curriculum
profile for Australian schools
The
statement is a description of the learning area. It explains the
broad goals of English teaching and sets out the content of English programs
at various stages of schooling. The statement is organised
into two strands: Texts and Language, and describes curriculum content
at four stages, Bands A to D, (roughly corresponding to the early years
of schooling, middle to upper primary school, high school, and secondary
college).
The
profile is a set of learning outcomes linked to the English statement.
It describes what students can do at eight levels of achievement in speaking
and listening, reading and viewing and writing. Profile outcomes
were designed for planning and to provide information about students'
progress.
How
are they used in Tasmania?
The
statement and profile are now support documents for curriculum planning K- 12 and
TQA syllabus
revision 11 - 12. They help Tasmanian teachers to ensure that:
- teachers
K - 12 have a common language to describe what students learn in English
- there
is continuity in language programs within and between schools
- language
programs cover all the essential aspects of the English learning area
But
I haven't got a statement or profile!
If
you can't track them down within your school, they can be ordered from
the Curriculum
Corporation . You can also find an overview of the two
strands of the statement, Texts and Language,
on this site.
