Ideas and Units - Beaut Ideas
Remembering
Babylon

(designed by
teachers at Hobart College)
Oral
Response
- Working
with a partner, conduct an interview with Mrs Hutchence soon
after Gemmy has gone to live with her.
- With
a partner, create a dialogue between Janet and Lachlan in
the monastery garden. Centre your conversation around Gemmys
time in the settlement and the way you perceive the changes
he made to your lives.
- As
George Abbot, visit Ellen McIvor to talk about the differences
Leona Gonzales has made to your view of the settlement.
- Retell
one of the following scenes as a given character:
- In
the scene where Gemmy is dragged to the water by the unseen
gang, imagine you are an unwilling member, too frightened
to stand apart. (p121-2)
- Be
George Abbot in the scene with Leona Gonzales (p88-92)
- Be
Janet standing in the moonlight with her mother as her father
returns from the creek with Gemmy (124-5)
- Try
to imagine the life of a particular character in retrospect,
using clues from the text. Tell that characters story.
For example, you could consider Ellen McIvors life in
Scotland, Andy Mckillops early life or George Abbots
dreams before Cousin Alisdair lost interest in him.
