Playground Blitz
A State Government Initiative
The Lennon Labor Government is striving to improve the health and well being
of our community, with increased levels of physical activity amongst our
children a high priority.
Playground Blitz is a Tasmanian Government initiative that provides a
terrific opportunity to increase the physical activity of children – from
youngsters in child care centres through to teenagers in our schools.
Fundamental to achieving our aspirations for the community is increased
access to playground equipment that is both fun and safe, and enhanced sporting
facilities within our schools, including a broad range of sports equipment to
cater for different interests and abilities.
It is also essential that our schools have suitable gymnasiums, multi-purpose
facilities, ovals and other playing areas that are of a suitable standard.
Through this program the Tasmanian Government also hopes to encourage further
use of these enhanced school facilities by community organisations.
Importantly, Playground Blitz links with the Personal Futures Essential
Learning in our new curriculum, as well as Learning Together, the Tasmanian
Government’s vision statement for education, training and information systems in
the 21st Century. This program will also enable us to make improvements in
meeting three of the goals identified in Tasmania Together, in relation to
greater community use of public education facilities, improving the health and
well being of Tasmanians and increasing levels of physical activity.
Sports Equipment Grants - $5,000
grant provided to each State Government school to assist with the purchase of
general sporting equipment - Due 30 June 2005.
Playground Equipment Grant - Amounts
granted, up to $15,000, to approved schools for the purchase of new playground
equipment - Due 31 March 2006.
Sports and Fitness Facilities Grant -
Amounts granted, up to $50,000, to approved schools for improvements to sports
and fitness facilities - Due 31 March 2006.
