Policies

Fire detection, hose reels and hydrants, sprinkler systems, emergency and exit lights are maintained under the fire systems maintenance contracts

Fire Evacuation Procedures

The State Fire Service requires all schools to have an approved fire evacuation procedure.  This involves completing a Fire Evacuation Template, changing it to suit your school and emailing to FacilityServices@education.tas.gov.au  The plans must come through Facility Services to gain the approval of the fire service and are to be reviewed every five years or after any change that may impact on the procedures.

Fire Evacuation Practice

Fire evacuation training should be undertaken at least once a year, and preferably three times a year during each school term.  General Fire Regulations 2000 require a formal practice evacuation be conducted annually therefore one of these practices must be declared the annual practice.  The Chief Officer must be advised prior to the annual evacuation in accordance with the Fire Evacuation Procedures.

Fire Safety
Fire safety in and around the site should remain an ongoing priority and is further described under Fire Prevention
Reports
ALL fire incidents are to be reported to Facility Services as soon as possible after its detection, by phone during business hours (6233 7283) or through the security monitoring company after hours.  Significant fires should also be reported to the relevant Branch Offices.
