Information sessions will now be held in the major centres as follows:
A second session will be held later in December for school staff who are unable to attend sessions in the above dates.
The Salary Calculator and Budget Workbook will be available from the BSS website from 26 November, together with download instructions and a training manual. To sign up for an information session, go to: http://www.education.tas.gov.au/admin/ff/training/coursebookings/bookingsbudgetwkbk.htm If you have any other questions, contact the Service Centre. 2. School levies simplification A circular memoranda was sent out by Infostream on November 8. It emphasised the importance of using a simplified school levies structure and the best practices and tools developed by BSS in consultation with schools and others. The circular can be found at: Levies information can be found on the internet: http://www.education.tas.gov.au/admin/ff/levy/default.htm 3. Term dates Please note that the term dates for next year (2005) have been confirmed. The start of Term 1 2005 for students is February 17. http://www.education.tas.gov.au/main/faq/termdates.htm 4. Student transportation web page http://www.education.tas.gov.au/admin/ff/transport/policies/studenttransport.htm This page has been created to make it easier for schools to access information as well as forms and guidelines regarding student transport services and student concessions provided by the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources. Two forms of particular importance are the: Bus stop/route complaint form - to make a formal complaint regarding a bus stop or bus route the above form needs to be completed and returned to Passenger Transport Services Branch. School Bus Incident Report form – this form should be completed by anyone wishing to report an incident that has occurred on a school bus service. School’s should familiarise themselves with these forms and are also asked to make them available to parents in circumstances where a parent wishes to make a complaint or to make a report on an incident. 5. 2005 Salary rates, Ready Reckoner and Initial Rates are on the website http://www.education.tas.gov.au/admin/ff/budgetsrp/procedures/srp2005.htm 6. End of Year Procedures The 2004 end of year procedures are now available on the Business Support Service website. The links to each module are below. You will notice that SSS and Timetabler are combined because some procedures need to be done in conjunction with others to complete the process. As you work through the SSS checklist there are some SAM procedures that need your attention as well. Please ensure that the SAM administrator and the Timetabler are aware that these are available. If you require assistance, please contact the Service Centre on 1800 816 057. 7. Essential Learnings for All Website Just a reminder -- There are regular updates on what's going on and the important changes for 2005, which can be found on the Essential Learnings for All website: http://www.education.tas.gov.au/essentiallearningsforall/ 8. Immunisation Schedule 2004 for children up to the age of 5 Some parents will provide a letter from the child’s GP as proof of vaccinations. This may say the child has been immunised with all vaccines up to the age of 5 without being specific. Here is list of those vaccinations by age group:
9. Sample school newsletter article The following text could be used in your school's newsletter to explain to parents the immunisation requirements for children entering school. This information could also be sent to parents who have expressed interest in enrolling their children to help them get the necessary information together prior to enrolment. Tasmanian School Entry Immunisation Requirements When you first enrol your child in school, you’ll be asked to provide information about your child’s immunisation history. This should be in the form of one of the following:
Statutory declarations can be obtained from the school or the Department of Health and Human Services. You’ll only need to provide this information once at the time of enrolment. Any changes to your child’s immunisation status can be noted on the annual validation form, which will be sent home to you in Term 1. You do not need to provide proof of further immunisations after the first enrolment. 10. Two Parent/Guardian Information Brochures To accompany the information validation form (report 030A), BSS will be supplying schools and colleges with a parent/guardian information brochure providing details about the form and questions. The brochure can be supplied to all families and independent students. We have also sent all schools and colleges a brochure to accompany the Enrolment Application Form. If you haven’t received these please contact the Service Centre. 11. Tip – quick data entry for vaccination records into SACS When the vaccination recording screen is in view (as seen below)
Press Esc on the keyboard when you have entered all records. Tip: Remember: HE for HEB and HI for HIB. Also, Y = Yes, N = No and U = Unknown.
12. Do not use the ZGone roll class for future students It is required that the SUSP (Suspense) or one of a similar name is used. The ZGone roll class was set up only to store ‘L’ status students. If ‘F’ status students are stored with ‘L’ status students in a ZGone roll class, it is quite easy to run reports for the class and have future students appear amongst the left ones. Also, the Resource Planning section extracts statistical data from ZGone roll class about left students, so it may become a little confusing for them. 13. Using the ‘EOI, DOB seen’ field in Student Personal Information, Part 2 As you go through the student enrolments screens in SACS, remember to tick the ‘EOI, DOB seen’ if the evidence of identity documents has been sighted. Also, you do not need to keep a copy of the birth certificate or other identification that have been provided. You simply need to record the document type and number. 14. Tip - Using the F6 and Shift F6 functions in SACS
