Timetabling
General
Advice
In
colleges, high schools and district high schools the organisation of time
can have an important influence on teaching and learning in English. As
English coordinator, make sure you are involved in discussions about the
timetable for the following year. Be clear about the ways in which the
timetable should meet the needs of students in English and assertive in
stating your case. Dont always believe what timetablers tell you
is possible and not possible!
As
English coordinator, keep the following points in mind:
- know how
your timetable operates;
- lobby
for preferred time slots/rooms/length of lesson/number of contacts,
etc;
- know the
requirements of TASSAB syllabuses
and the Literacy Policy
- lobby
in support of English teachers, particularly part-time English teachers;
- remember
that block timetabling offers many advantages;
- ensure
that teachers have common time available for collaborative planning
and
- ensure
that computer access is available to English classes.
