Especially for Co-ordinators - Implementing the Curriculum

Syllabuses into Courses

General Advice

School Examples:

  • Ogilvie High School Year 9 Core Units of Work
  • Ogilvie High School Year 10 Core Units of Work
  • Ogilvie High School Year 10 Negotiated Study Materials
  • Devonport High School Years 9 and 10 Curriculum Materials
An important role of the English co-ordinator is to help teachers use TASSAB syllabuses to develop courses for their students:
  • Teachers need to understand that TASSAB syllabuses have been revised in line with the English Statement and Profile and the Key Competencies. This has a range of implications for course development. Ensure that teachers are familiar with syllabuses, criteria and assessment standards. These can be downloaded from the TASSAB web site. You may need to devote time during staff meetings during the year to ensure that your department has shared understandings of what syllabuses require.
  • Decisions need to be made about what can be included over the four years from grades 7-10 and the two years grades11-12. (SCOPE AND SEQUENCE)
  • The following components influence the development of course outlines:
    • school context;
    • learning objectives;
    • texts/language;
    • core units;
    • other units of work;
    • assessment/reporting in criteria;
    • outcomes; and
    • recommended texts.
