AATE    
Australian Association for the Teaching of English members are part of an international network of teachers with a commitment to teaching and learning in the field of language and literacy. Valuable sections include English in Australia, professional development and web links.

ALEA   Australian Literacy Educators' Association (Tasmania)    

ALEA   Australian Literacy Educators' Association (National)    
This valuable site provides support and professional development to educators and others interested in literacy through international, national, state and regional conferences, workshops and seminars, journals, position papers and other publications.

ETANSW — the English Teaching Association of New South Wales
On this site there are membership details, lesson ideas and access to back copies of the highly-regarded journal, Metaphor.

ETAQ  English Teachers Association of Queensland Inc    
This site has resources, reviews, competitions and updated links.  The 'Good Oil' section is particularly worth a visit.

PETA      
Primary English Teaching Association.  This web site is worth visiting for teachers from all sectors.  Excellent resources and connections to other teachers.

TATE   Tasmanian Association for the Teaching of English   
This association  promotes the interests of English education in Tasmania and is open to teachers from all schools and sectors. It is affiliated with the national association, AATE (see below).  A valuable Web site for Tasmanian English teachers with information about coming events.

VATE   Victorian Association for the Teaching of English    
This Australian site has some useful links and provides the opportunity to order some excellent teacher reference books and other resources.

Other places

NATE
The National Association for the Teaching of English is the UK English teacher association. The site includes forums, details of publications, and an issues section with papers on various topics K - 12.

NZATE
The New Zealand Association for the Teaching of English site includes position papers and the current newsletter.

National Council of Teachers of English
NCTE is a big organisation.  This is a big site.  It includes policy statements and guidelines, teaching ideas, information about professional development in the USA and lots more.

Scottish Association for the Teaching of English
This association hasn’t been around for that long, but already the site looks promising. It includes papers from the inaugural conference.
