A New Twist On an Old Tale
This WebQuest is based on the Cinderella story and seeks to combine the study of literature and the study of history.

Aesop’s Fables
This site contains a large collection of Aesop’s fables, other fables and fairytales with accompanying classroom activities.

Australian Aboriginal Writers
Ozlit's list of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Writers. Extensive and full of information.

Australian Literature Gateway
A subscription-based, comprehensive site on Australian literature. It includes a free browse section.

The Canadian Children's Book Centre
The Canadian Children's Book Centre provides information about authors, illustrators, book awards and book reviews.

The Children's Book Council of Australia
This worthwhile site promotes, advertises and informs about children's books. Information about the Children's Book of the Year Award can be found here.

Children's Literature Site
This site prepared by Carol Hurst  is comprehensive.  There is an extensive book review section with some well known books mentioned.

The Children's Literature Web Guide
This is a useful Canadian site that gathers together and categorises a growing number of Internet resources related to books for children and young adults. Most of the information you can find through the pages is provided by others: fans, schools, libraries, and commercial enterprises involved in the book world.

Cool Books for Tough Guys
The full title includes: ‘50 Books Out of the Mainstream of Adolescent Literature That Will Appeal to Males Who Do Not Enjoy Reading’ Lawrence Baines is an assistant professor in the Department of English Education at The Florida State University. Here are his suggestions for hooking male students who choose not to read.

Encyclopaedia Mythica
A comprehensive online collection on mythology, folklore and legends from all over the world.

Focus on Fiction  
A rich, interactive site, full of useful information and produced by the Western Australian Department of Education. Sections include: Authors on the Net, Best Books for Kids, Book Awards, Children’s Book Week, CMIS Online Book Club and Fiction Focus.

Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts
Edited by D.L. Ashliman, this site is a collection of little-known tales, most of them oriental and Nordic. There are some strange versions of Cinderella and Snow White, folktales and legends about various heroes, and the mythical stories behind some ancient monuments.

The Globe
Contains information and 3D images of the Globe Theatre.

Literature Circles
This excellent site introduces English teachers to literature circles, student-led discussion groups.

The Literature Network
A searchable on-line collection of literature in the public domain. Once a text is out of copyright, it may be possible to find a copy here.

101 ideas and more for teachers to encourage students to write in response to literature. This site is practical, detailed and easy to use.

Meet the greatest crime-solvers of all time and the men and women who created them. An interactive site.

Ozlit Australian Books and Writers
A great site with lots to interest students, teachers and parents. The site is organised into chapters and includes a Books and Writers Database, a section for younger readers, literary sites, research tools, a poetry collection, Book of the Month and multiple links to others sites.

Picturing Books
An American site devoted to picture books for both younger and older readers.

Romeo and Juliet  
Organised around the Baz Luhrmann film, this site has information on Shakespeare, the setting and the players. There are opportunities to chat and listen to the soundtrack.

Weave the Book Web
This is a terrific site developed by the Ipswich District Librarian Network. It includes shortlisted books and activities, Book Week websites, writing activities, units, graphics, online literary projects and advice on how to make an electronic book. Ideal for teachers and students.

What' New in DELIC
What’s New has certainly had big boots to fill after the much acclaimed 027.8 journal ceased publication late last year.  Now that you have had four instalments of the monthly What’s New webpage we would like you to email any constructive comments or suggestions you may have about the content of What’s New.

Yabba Book Awards An Australian children’s choice award site, with categories similar to the CBC awards. The shortlisted books are linked to reviews where available.

Challenging poetry for Key Stage Three (grade 9)
This is part of the UK Virtual Teacher Centre. It includes ICT activities related to three poems.

Cyberpoets
Hosted by State Library of Victoria. The site contains a database of poetry, links to poets’ websites, writers’ resources and an e-zine.

Divan
An on-line poetry journal produced by students and teachers from Box Hill Institute, Melbourne.

Haiku for People!
Haiku for people is edited by Kei Grieg Toyomasu. It describes what the haiku is and how to write haiku poems. There are links to haiku pages and examples of haikus organised by themes such as: food, summer, flowers, computers and Christmas.

ISLMC Poetry for Children
Poetry for children has been developed by the Internet School Library Media Center at James Madison University. It contains many forms of poetry including nursery rhymes and Mother Goose sites, songs, haiku, ways to write poetry and poetry in the classroom.

This is a rich site for students and teachers. It includes historical background and a self-study package to help clarify the essence of haiku as a form

Knopf Publishing Poetry Center
A Random House publishing site, this one contains a student forum on poetry, printable poetry posters, and information about poets including W.H.Auden, Elizabeth Bishop and more recently published poets.

Listen and Write: Poetry
From BBC Education, this site contains poetry writing activities, audio poems, rhyming raps, simile poems, a thesaurus and a gallery of children’s work where children can send their finished work. Suitable for students between the ages of 9 and 11.

Online Poetry Classroom
A site hosted by the American Academy of Poets which contains units and lesson plans for teachers.

Poetryclass
The teaching ideas on this UK site are contributed by a team of forty poets who work with schools. There is a fine set of poetry workshops for teachers to try.

Poetry lesson plans
Part of the Creative Writing for Teens site, this page brings together lesson ideas from many sources for students of all ages. Suggested grade levels are indicated.

Poetry Post
A K-12 on-line project for students in many countries, which originated from a key-pal exchange between students in Tennessee and Perth. Poems must be submitted by teachers.

The Poetry Zone
This rich UK site was established by poet Roger Stevens as a showcase for students’ poetry. It includes teaching ideas, interviews with poets and book reviews. Students can submit poetry for publication with their parents’ permission.

Poets’ Corner

Poet’s Corner
An on-line project for students, Poet’s Corner encourages students to experiment with particular forms and then share their poems world-wide.

Teaching Haiku Poetry, Links, Resources, Ideas
This comprehensive site has ideas for teaching students about haiku at different grade levels from early childhood up to year 12 and beyond.
